Raíces was founded by Afro-Latina duo hermanas [sisters], Dra. Rosanna Sánchez John and Cristina Isabel Sanchez, as they were inspired by their family’s long tradition of natural healers. Rosanna wanted to share her cultural healing practices through multicultural sensitive mental health services.
Dr. Rosanna Sanchez John, Ed.D, LPC, NCC, ACS
Dr. Sánchez John earned her Doctor of Education in Counselor Education and Supervision from Marymount University. Dr. Sánchez John is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in Maryland, and a National Certified Counselor (NCC). She is an Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS) in Maryland and through the Center for Credentialing & Education. She has dedicated her career in integrating holistic interventions, multicultural sensitive practices, to improve mental health outcomes for the Latinx and Black community. Dr. Sánchez John theoretical orientation derives from Gestalt, a holistic whole person perspective, person-centered, and strength-based approach and Existentialism.
Gestalt therapy is a process of exploring our experience in and of relationship while in relationship. Gestalt therapy reflects our human nature as interconnected. Attends to the client-nature relationship by orientating to this holistic perception and collaborating with nature in the here-and-now.
Dr. Sánchez John provides therapy in both English and Spanish to adolescents, adults, and families. In her clinical practice, Dr. Sánchez John specializes in treating anxiety and stress, mood disorders (depression and bipolar disorder), traumatic experiences, race-related trauma or stress, family transitional issues, cultural adaptation, crisis intervention and assessment. She has presented at numerous international and national conferences, on racial identity, traditional spiritual practices, and Latinx community. Her professional interests include multicultural counseling, racial identity development in Afro-Latinx and diverse populations, religious and spiritual issues in counseling.
In addition to providing therapy, Dr. Sanchez John is currently an Assistant Professor of Counseling at Trinity Washington University. Prior to Trinity Washington University she was a professor in the Counseling Program at Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Sanchez John enjoys nature, spending time with her family, and advocating for Black and Latinx Autistic children.
